Since its initial launch in 1992 the AUSTRALIAN INT. AIRSHOW has established itself as one of the leading aviation events within the Asia-Pacific region. Held biannualy at AVALON Airport located 40 miles south-west of Melbourne the AUSTRALIAN INT. AIRSHOW not only attracts the general public but also showcases the latest in Aerospace and Defense technology. Usually conducted in early February this years show was held in Mid-March as not to conflict with other events within the region and also to take advantage of the better weather conditions. The change of dates certainly paid of with more than 200.000 members of the general public attending the airshow on the 17th – 18th of March 2005.
The expo at AVALON is probably not that big than the ones at Farnborough or Berlins, nevertheless a steady growth can be seen there as well. Compared to the 2003 airshow a considerable increase in trade visitors and exibitors was visible. This is a significant indication that this event plays an important role not only within the domestic Aerospace industry. Quiet interesting was the fact, that in 2005 the US Defence industry as well as US Governmental Organisation outnumbered completely all other nations to pay tribute to their close ally and trade partner Australia. The European contingent was maily presented by EADS and BAE Systems but also companys from all over the world took part in the fair. Many delegations and high ranking officials from South-East-Asia and particular from the Peoples Republic of China showed an interest in the expo.
